MISSION STATEMENT
Hidden Hollow Farm is family owned and operated. Established in 1990 it was built by Richard Staats and his son-in-law Al Weber. It has flourished into a wonderful place for individuals and families to come and learn about our equine friends. In 1996 the farm became a Non for Profit 501(c) 3 organization.
The mission of Hidden Hollow Farm is to provide a safe, fun and educational environment for riders with or without disabilities. Stephanie Weber-Fitzpatrick and Shannon Weber-LaBrusciano, built up the lesson program at the farm’s beginning that continues today. It has expanded greatly to reach a variety of individuals. It’s their dream to make the equine world accessible to everyone regardless of any challenges an individual may or may not face.
In 1991 Mrs. Fitzpatrick became a certified therapeutic riding instructor through the Cheff Center in Michigan and became a coach / clinician for Special Olympics, New York. She has devoted countless hours to teaching individuals to ride. She passed her teaching skills to her daughter, Erica Wheeler. Ms. Wheeler, a high school student, is a fantastic teacher and plans on continuing her education to include a degree in an Equine area of study.
Hidden Hollow hosted the Special Olympics New York State Equestrian Games in 1995, 1996 in Rhinebeck at Rhine Valley Farms, and in 2000 in Saugerties at Beaver Kill Farms.
We are PROUD to say that in 1996 our rider, David Yamen, went to the World Games in North Carolina. He was the winner of the GOLD MEDAL for the United States.
In summer months Hidden Hollow holds schooling shows and clinics at
the farm. In the fall we host the local competition for the Hudson
Valley region
We offer many different riding programs for able bodied riders and disabled riders. For riders with special needs we provide a special ramp to assist in properly positioning themselves in the saddle. All riders MUST wear approved helmets when riding. If the rider does not have a helmet of their own we will provide one.
During each riding session the rider is responsible for first grooming and tacking up (saddle, pad, girth & bridle) their lesson horse. When on the horse they do exercises such as walk, trot and/or canter depending on their riding ability. When the rider is finished with their lesson they have to again groom the horse and restock all used tack and equipment after which they have to properly retire the horse. All of the above is done with either an instructor or a trained volunteer. We have many wonderful volunteers on our farm that assist with all farm work, equine care and lessons if needed. In therapeutic lessons one or more volunteers are used. They lead the horse or side walk with the rider. We are always welcoming new volunteers!
